The 200th Anniversary of the Passionist Sisters of St Paul of the Cross
Last Saturday the combined sisters, from Adelaide, Allambie, Bexley and Marrickville prepared and led a most wonderful celebration of their founding by Maria Maddelena Frescobaldi in 1815.
The Sisters had decorated the altar and prepared a liturgy which both respected the Lenten Season but allowed for a truly joyful celebration of their Anniversary. We were joined by four Scalabrinian Fathers, as well as Mr Christopher Rigby, CEO of Scalabrinian Ministries in Australia. Sr Maria Casey, Vicar for Religious and those in Consecrated Life for the Archdiocese of Sydney was also present.
Br John Lin CP, our Chinese professed student came to represent the sisters working in Korea and China. Br Ben Telu, Martin Lusk and our Oblate
Jeffrey were in the Congregation, and John Auram, Jacob Kuman, Gerald Glynn, Jim Elmore, Kevin Hennessy, Peter Gardiner, George Koloth, Peter
Gaughan were also present. The Church was very full. The Choir sang up a storm – it was a typical St Brigid’s celebration. Afterwards in the hall, the sisters, who had been cooking since 4.00 in the morning, had prepared a veritable feast.
Congratulations, Sisters. We look forward to the next Centenary.
